The Stay Safe London is designed as a preventative safety tool to address the pressing safety concerns by using state of the art technology to provide real-time support and resources.

Our vision for Stay Safe London is to create a safer London where everyone, especially women and young people, can move freely and confidently,

Stay Safe London App Mission

- Empowerment through Technology: Provide users with the tools to take charge of their own safety while navigating the city.

- Safety Circle: Enable users to establish their own “Safety Circle” for increased protection and peace of mind.

- Community Support: Build a network of vigilance and assistance, ensuring every individual feels secure at all times.

- Change behaviours of cultures of misogyny and racism

Our Solution

Our ambition is to release a mobile application comprising of these key features:

Safety Circles and Geolocation Tracking:

Users can create a 'Safety Circle' with selected friends, allowing all members to view each other's locations at any time. The user shall be able to define a list of different groups with differing privacy rules. These can be friends, family or single use groups for events. These can then be used to track and ensure the safety of a user. If the user activates the emergency feature, their safety circles shall be alerted, and their location will be tracked. This allows non-invasive privacy to allow people to not feel overly tracked and in control of their tracking whilst also feeling safe.

Safe Mode (Geofencing):

When someone wants to be extra safe (walking home late at night or going on a night out etc) - they can set their destination from a range of user defined locations, or a one-time use location. The app shall track their location at intervals. The user shall be able to define whether the app should stop tracking at their destination or until they get home (multiple stops). Throughout their safe mode session, the user's location shall be visible to their selected safety circles until the session ends. If the user arrives at their final destination, the app shall alert the user that their safe mode is ending, and the tracking shall be disabled. The user shall be able to select which safety circles receive arrival notifications at their different destinations.

Automatic Home Arrival Notification:

Once a Safety Circle member reaches their designated home location, our geolocation tracking system will automatically detect their arrival and inform the rest of the group that they have arrived safely. If the user does not arrive at their registered destination, the app will send a prompt asking, "Are you safe, or still enjoying yourself?" This prompt will be sent three times, at 10-minute intervals. If there is no reply, the users, Safety Circle will be alerted to the users non-response and provided with your most recent location.

SOS feature:

If the user finds themselves alone and feeling unsafe or unwell, the user can quickly send an alert to their Safety Circle, notifying them of their situation along with their exact location. The user will have several alert options to choose from, such as "I feel unsafe," "I feel unwell," "I'm lost," "My phone battery is low," "I believe my drink has been spiked," or "Someone is making me uncomfortable."

Near Me:

The app will also include a feature that will show and navigate the user to various safety and support locations e.g. Safe Spaces, Defibrillators, asthma clinics, shelters, police stations, charities etc, women's and youth centers.

Sharing Groups:

The user can create and manage their own Safety Circle of trusted contacts to share their journey or location with.

Privacy:

The user can control when, how long and who they share their location with. Meaning no one can know their location without their permission.

Friend feed:

The app will have a system where users can follow each other on the app to allow users to share with people where they are going out, check into venues, or put a go out request to their followed users.

Crime insight for police:

The app would provide a large repository of data for the police to use in violent crime prevention. Active real-time updates on alerts and users noting areas of unsafe feeling. The app could also feature a “I feel unsafe here” to provide active heatmaps over the city.

Live Incident Reporting and Collaboration with London's Emergency Services:

Our app will allow users to report live incidents, helping to warn others to avoid certain areas. We aim to collaborate with London's emergency services to integrate our app, enabling alerts and information to be swiftly communicated city-wide through a single platform. Our approach includes a "test and learn" phase, where we will partner with charities, schools, and six selected corporate companies to trial the app. We also plan to engage influencers such as Maya Jama, Beta Squad, Ed Sheeran, and Amir Khan—who have all publicly expressed concerns about crime and safety in London—to promote the app and raise awareness.

Young people:

This feature is designed for students to privately report incidents, share ideas like sporting events, and access information about supportive services. During the launch phase, we will collaborate with charities in London that have youth projects and have established relationships with four schools in the area. We will work closely with these schools and charities to promote our app, highlighting its benefits and demonstrating how it can be used in an enjoyable way. Our team will monitor the app, ensuring that any posts not adhering to the posting policy are promptly removed.
